Website Communications

There are many forms of website communciations to keep members informed.

eNewsletter

End users sign up to have periodic eNewsletters sent to their email accounts. These eNewsletters are composed by the site contributors and sent to either test users or the bulk accounts list. eNewsletters can be in either HTML or plain text. A eNewsletters archive is maintained for previously sent eNewsletters. Administrators maintain the list of email accounts.

RSS feeds

News feeds are used to communicate new web content either by browser or news aggregator.

Add-ins are available from Microsoft and third parties for Outlook 2003 from Microsoft. Which can greatly simplify real time news collection.

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) protocol is used by email clients, browsers and other applications as the protocol is already standardized.

This allows for automatic checking of news feeds for the latest content. This content can be articles, events, reports and other items.

Browsers can auto discover if a website has newsfeeds, like this website offers.

Email clients have add ins which can greatly simplify management of multiple newsfeeds and look and act like regular email items. Companies like Attensa offer free Outlook Email plug-ins.

HyperLink or HyperLink- Click on RSS button to view or subscribe to the news feed.

HyperLink - Click on the ICON in you browsers toolbar, if it has one to read or subscribe.

Users of RSS new feed content use programs called RSS feed 'readers' or 'aggregators'. The user 'subscribes' to a feed by supplying to their reader a link to the feed. The reader can then check the user's subscribed feeds to see if any of those feeds have new content since the last time it checked, and if so, retrieve that content and present it to the user.

Forums

Forums provide website users the ability to have discussions about various topics. Threads are replys to topics in the particular forum. There can be multiple forums that are either moderated on not.

Articles

Articles are posted by various website contributors. Usually the contain information of concern to users, but can also contain helpful instructions on using the site. There can be multple article areas.
